Wiki Standards & Conventions
Core rules and conventions for writing, naming, and documenting lore on The Void Player Wiki.
Rules of the Wiki
- Never Start Titles with "The":
- Article titles must never start with the word "The".
- Example: Use
Voidinstead ofThe Void, orOuroboros Inninstead ofThe Ouroboros Inn. Add the full title with "The" as an alias in frontmatter or in the main page header.
- Shorten Article Names:
- Keep note titles concise. Omit titles like "Kingdom of ...", "Order of ...", or "Barony of ...".
- Put the formal long title as an alias or within the lead header.
- Automated Organization:
- You do not need to manually sort files into folder directories. When creating or editing articles through the web editor (
/editor), selecting the Note Type (Location, NPC, Organization, Event, Species, or Meta) automatically places and tags the article appropriately.
- You do not need to manually sort files into folder directories. When creating or editing articles through the web editor (
- Atomic Notes & Clean Tagging:
- Keep articles focused on a single subject, location, person, or concept.
- Use lowercase tags (e.g.,
#npc,#location,#faction,#settlement).
- Campaign World Linking via Editor:
- Assigning notes to campaign worlds is handled directly via the World Selector dropdown in the editor's frontmatter panel—no manual folder moves required.
- Player Knowledge Perspective (No Character POVs):
Objective Player Perspective
All articles, world notes, and session logs must be written strictly from the Player's objective knowledge, NOT from a character's in-game point of view.
Avoid first-person in-character journaling (e.g., "I ventured into the cave and my party members were frightened"). Instead, write clear encyclopedic third-person accounts (e.g., "The adventuring party entered the Sunken Caldera and encountered..."). This ensures clarity and consistency across all participants.
- Avoid Orphaned Articles:
- Always link new articles to and from existing parent concepts, worlds, settlements, or faction notes so they are easily discoverable.
Formatting & Callouts
For extensive syntax examples and visual components:
