Klavik Irelok’s Journeymans Quest
Abstract
Klavik Irelok has been requested by Will Al-Basir to locate and open a Vault located in a subterranean tomb north of Sharan. An organization by the name of: The Obsidian Eye, was seeking access to this vault.
Player Characters
Klavik Irelok Pitaya River Poppy Mona Kain Droskar
With Will Al-Basir’s passing, the party has been guided by Bramble who’s maintaining his corpse. A connection through the butterfly echo and possibly his soul was still there. Bramble mentioned not too linger too long within the tomb.
Arrival at Hakim’s Camel Farm near Sharan
The party arrived here after teleportation inquiring for info and transportation through the desert. They also sampled some local Camel Cheese from the nameless apprentice now called “Heyu”.
Whilst traveling to the city of Sharan, 3 drake riders flew over heading towards the camel farm. For what purpose is unknown but no harm has been done as both the farmers were alive and well on the way back.
Outside of Sharan ‘s Gates
The party traveled to the city but did not enter. They looked for guidance to finding the tomb’s location and supplied water for the coming trip. Water was supplied by a vendor selling ribbons to gain donations for their organization. Klavik bought 1 blue ribbon as a thank you for providing the water, but was told he financed potential assassins this way.
The party found a guide named Ti-Bar who would be willing to guide the party to the location for 100gp. The party haggled by paying 20gp and a potential piece of treasure from the Tomb on return.
Whilst looking for water and a guide, we were being watched in secret by others unknown.
The Tomb of the Black Sun
With help of Ti-Bar and River Poppy’s navigation spells, the party found the tomb easily. on the way they found some wrapped humanoid in the distance but did not approach.
The location was marked by an obelisk, being the peak of this sunken temple.
Within the temple, it was rigged with multiple traps and some entities within being:
- About 10-20 Kobolds (who were instantly killed by Poppy’s devastating shadow magic)
- 2 Fire Elementals. (We avoided an encounter with them)
- A Door Guardian. Big construct being using doors as its weapons
Points of interest within the temple were:
- Multiple Sarcophagi and lingering spirits
- A mysterious circle of pitch black, apparently a means to embalm the dead within this tomb.
The Lock Puzzle
At the end the party was faces by a puzzle. A huge ornamental door was locked with a large keyhole. Within the chamber were multiple pillars on a grid that had to be positioned into a sequence.
The large lock on the door could be interacted with and had a similar structure to an actual lock with large pins that could be moved to feel its pressure, which was connected to the positions on the grid.
Through interacting with the mechanism and figuring out that the pillars on the sides within the room held information on the numerical values needed for the placement of the grid-pillars, the party managed to open the door.
Within the Vault
A Shadow Dog beast being was here protecting the vault. Weirdly enough the vault itself was empty with no obvious treasure. The Shadow Dog had devastating howls that induced fear but the party managed just slightly to take it down as party members collapsed within the fight. (If only they had found some convenient items just before this chamber to protect them from auditory effects).
Within the fight, the Shadow Dog got healed by this shadowy portal within the far back of the chamber. Klavik managed to pass past the Shadow Dog blocking the way to investigate this portal, sticking his head through peering into a shadow/fog domain which poisoned him instantly.
Klavik could see a big mountain with lights coming from it within this dimension.
This Shadow/Fog domain is very likely to be what is protected by this vault and what the Obsidian Eye is after.
The party managed to destroy the portal making the Shadow Dog unable to heal from the shadowy essence seeping into our realm. It is likely that this portal can be reopened with the runes on the floor.
The Shadow Dog got slain with much hardship, and the vault is now considered safe (Besides 2 fire elementals and perhaps some forgotten traps)
Question
Is this vault and its portal a way into the Foglands and what does the Obsidian Eye want with this?
What were these mountains and the lights coming from it in the distance when Klavik peered into this dimension?
